So I got my copy of Evolve by Ani DiFranco today (which, for the record is both and excellent CD an extremely cool bit of CD packaging) and was highly amused to find this message on there: Unauthorized duplication, while sometimes necessary, is never as good as the real thing.
Now that is the right attitude [...]

There’s this amazing site with a good selection of videogame soundtracks. Nerdy? Yes. Cool? You betcha. Included are the excellent soundtracks from the original NiGHTS Into Dreams and Super Mario Galaxy, as well as many others. Now all I need is a bigger hard drive…
Enjoy it!

I really must mention that Tearwave’s Different Shade of Beauty is the single best shoegaze album to be released since Split by Lush - almost 15 years ago. Brilliant in every since of the word, and an instant classic of the genre.

So I finally got Helen Trevillion’s Inside Myself CD. I’d been waiting for months for her to get more made, and I finally has it. Yay!
It’s everything I could have possibly expected and more. Mom even doesn’t mind it. Review coming soon…maybe. We can hope so, anyways.
Sorry I’ve been neglecting the blog to an absurd [...]

This, and with the amount of corruption in the legal system there’s a chance they might very well get away with it. I know this is just an addition to the case, but it brought it to mind again for me.
What this amounts to is: “We don’t like the law, so let’s just ignore it [...]

Many of the muffins are rapidly losing faith in Emilie Autumn. Maybe this has something to do with it. Tracks on the upcoming Girls Just Wanna Have Fun/Bohemian Rhapsody EP (alphabetical, not real order):
Asleep (Live)
Bohemian Rhapsody
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Asylum Edit)
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Teatime Edit)
Girls Just Wanna Have [...]

I was very excited to hear that Angelspit had a new album coming out this year. Not so much because I’d been really impressed by the band in the past, but simply because 2008 looks to be a really lackluster year for releases - so any addition to that list is very welcome. Don’t get [...]

Yes, it’s a funny title. It wasn’t intentional, but I’ll go with it. The short version: should an album have to be absolutely jaw dropping to earn a score of 10/10, or just excellent throughout - but maybe not as good as my absolute favorite albums? And did I give Nightwish’s Dark Passion Play too [...]

I never thought I’d have the minister leaving me nagging blog comments. She’s really getting up to date with this computer stuff. I don’t mind, I just found it kind of surprising.
But…that’s not why I was originally here to post. What I was going to say is that the good new is that I’ve finished [...]

Well, as some of you may have heard, nine tracks from the exponentially delayed Guns n’ Roses album Chinese Democracy have leaked and, here and there (meaning on now DMCA’d YouTube videos), I’ve heard them. Well, I guess the first question would be: Is it worth the wait? Well the sad answer is that no, [...]

I guess I’m kind of obligated (blogligated?) to write about music stuff, even when I’ve got nothing good to say about it. Yes, contrary to the way my previous posts would seem, I don’t like every scrap of music I listen to, I’m just infinitely more apt to write about the ones that I actually [...]

Would ever attempt something like this. Prepare to behold the horror of Nightwish’s song Dead to the World played on accordion. I don’t know why either.

Old-ish (well, from 2004), but awesome. Great video, great song.

Listening to the first track of this album, I was already dismissing it as another generic pop folk album. You see, Fantasy Escape violates my first rule of music production: Always start with one of your best songs. Always! No exceptions to this one. You see, the first track - Reality of You - is [...]

Windows Media Player (11) takes 14 seconds to add a song to my playlist. 14 full seconds (I really timed it). Isn’t that just a little bit ridiculous? Add it to my long list of complaints with the program, it’s still not going to stop me from using it (at least not yet). Still seems [...]

Don’t worry folks, I shouldn’t be making a habit of this - but this video is actually worth your time. Why? Well, for one this it’s the first good video of Nightwish’s career. For another, it’s one of their best songs, though completely untraditional for them - sounding more like a Jethro Tull tune in [...]

So, today I was listening to the debut album or Allison Stayer, a singer-songwriter from Montana, and I was fairly impressed. She sings beautifully, which is always a good start with me since while I’ll consider most anything - if you’re singing sucks it’s going to be a lot harder to impress me. Not one [...]

Who would have thought of doing an electronic cover of “I Think We’re Alone Now”? Well apparently those crazy members of The Birthday Massacre would. The weirdest part is, it’s actually good - really good.

So, I just found some free (yay) MP3’s of very old Emilie Autumn songs on a section of her website that is ridiculously old and probably shouldn’t still exist but, since it does, I’ll exploit it to it’s full potential. So…go over here. You can just stream the files, or right click - save target [...]

I’m not quite up for writing a proper review, but I’ve just finished listening to the new Dresden Dolls compilation/companion album No, Virginia and I felt obligated to at least write a bit about it. The album is a compilation of demos, outtakes from the Yes, Virginia album, and random odd b-sides - including one [...]

Well not really, but this article mentions the last.fm group “People With An Absurdly Large Music Collection,” which I lead. So I at least thought it was kind of cool even though I wasn’t actually mentioned at all (two of my members were, though).

You’re not going to find Emilie Autumn’s Laced/Unlaced for cheap, unless you want it as a download (in which case try Amazon’s music download service). Heck, Emilie Autumn and cheap really shouldn’t be used in the same sentence. It’s simple economics, she has a product she knows people (myself included) will pay ridiculous amounts of [...]

Probably one of the best bands you’ve never heard of, The Romanovs (previously known as Morgan and the Hidden Hands) create music that really defies my best attempts to categorize. Sometimes their sound is very dark cabaret, while at other times it seems to recall the work of Tori Amos and Kate Bush, but with [...]

I’ve decided trying to write a gigantic megapost is not working out for me, at all, so you are just going to have to deal with a series of smaller posts interspersed among the usual junk. This is the first of said posts, basically amounting to a copy and paste of the first section of [...]

But this free stuff is exceptionally cool. I just got a free Projekt 2008 sampler signed by the one and only Sam Rosenthal (of Black Tape for a Blue Girl, as well as being the founder of the Projekt label (yes, I am enough of a music geek to both know who that is and [...]

My (sold out) limited edition Laced/Unlaced finally arrived today (all the way from France). I was so lucky to get it, I’d been searching everywhere with no success until I finally found a copy on Amazon.fr (there’s no more, sorry to get your hopes up). It’s beautiful (other than one little dent in the top [...]

So, yeah…basically one of the people who I absolutely have to write about in my upcoming music article *shameless reminder* no longer has my two favorite songs on his site and I am about five degrees beyond annoyed. I just needed a minute to rant.
Update: Make that my three favorite of his songs. I think [...]

Oh, nevermind that would be Within The Realm of A Dying Sun, so I was close. And I wasn’t trying to be creative - that was actually the first thing that popped into my mind when I wrote that title. Given the positive response last time, I thought I’d look into what people actually wanted, [...]

The Emilie Autumn signed Your Sugar Sits Untouched poetry book and accompanying CD, the last seven of which just finished being sold on eBay, simply because I didn’t have $400 to spend on it. I was fine up to $350, convinced myself up to $375 but just couldn’t make the $25 leap to $400 even. [...]

Aforementioned draft post reads as follows. It was pending a re-photo shoot since these ones turned out really bad, and I kind of wanted to write a formal review, though suffice to say it’s the best album ever created. Anyways:
I actually bought a CD for the first time in many years. Not a cheap one [...]
