Much Ado About Nothing

Written by Pacdan

Well, as some of you may have heard, nine tracks from the exponentially delayed Guns n’ Roses album Chinese Democracy have leaked and, here and there (meaning on now DMCA’d YouTube videos), I’ve heard them. Well, I guess the first question would be: Is it worth the wait? Well the sad answer is that no, it’s not at all worth the wait. I was never really a fan of anything but three or so of their hits, so take that into consideration, but for me not one of those songs was even worth the time I spent listening to it. The songs range from average to bad, mostly staying closer to the “bad” side, and Axl Roses’ vocals never get above bad. Seriously, I mean he wasn’t great to begin with - but the years haven’t done him any favors. He’s gone from a lousy singer who worked well in the context of the band to and abysmal singer that, even in the best band in the world, wouldn’t be able to make good music. And speaking of the band, they just sound pretty average. Not horrendous, just completely blands and just there. I get the impression that they’re going for a more “modern” sound, but the end result is bland compositions that completely lack the energy that made the classic GnR songs worth listening to. In the end, it’s just plain dull with mediocre compositions and flat out bad vocals. The band will sell copies just on the hype surrounding this release, but unless the final album is much, much better than these leaked versions, it’s going to be a total dissappointment.

And yes, DMCA is now a verb.

” I mean he wasn’t great to begin with ”
What kind of credibility has someone who says that?
The leaks are in general fucking great: I can’t see the “average” thing on Better, TWAT, Madagascar or Catcher in the Rye, then the song titled Chinese Democracy may not be a masterpiece but it fucking rocks, The Blues has a lot of emotion, since the “I don’t know just what I should do” part to, specially, the ending part, that “Is only memories” just gives me chills… what else, #2 may as well be on the Better-TWAT-Madagascar group, while If the World, although being a good and original song, in my opinion doesn’t quite fit the album… But hey, maybe you’ve only listened that average-to-bad Rhiad and the Beduins
And to point it out, Axl’s vocals nowadays are just great, just listen to any of those songs (although he sing different in nearly every one) or Stuck Inside by Sebastian Bach, where he sings
And yeah, it’s worth the wait a trilogy of albums full of songs of that kind which, most of them, we still haven’t heard

It gives me the credibility of someone who reviews music, at least at an amateur level :). Besides, I didn’t say I didn’t like him in the classic songs - I very much do, but his voice is kind of rough and whiny. For rock music, that can be a good thing, but here he just sounds blah. And anyways, it’s just my opinion - I’m glad someone at least did like them, it would be a shame for all that effort making the songs to go to waste.
