The Dresden Dolls - No, Virginia…
Written by Pacdan
I’m not quite up for writing a proper review, but I’ve just finished listening to the new Dresden Dolls compilation/companion album No, Virginia and I felt obligated to at least write a bit about it. The album is a compilation of demos, outtakes from the Yes, Virginia album, and random odd b-sides - including one cover. The album is about what you’d expect from the Dresden Dolls, in that it’s completely true to their traditional dark/punk cabaret style, but what I wasn’t expecting is the sheer quality. While it may be “just a compilation album,” the songs are all excellently written and flow together very well. Amanda Palmer gives a great performance across the entire CD and the piano and drums combo works just as well as ever. The only less good tracks areĀ Sheep and Boston, the two slower tracks that end the album. Even at that, they’re far from bad - just not as spectacular as everything else. While under normal circumstances, one would expect something to like this to be a strictly fan’s only release, the album is actually superb - probably even better than Yes, Virginia. This is a must have for any fan, and not a bad starting point for someone who is new to the band either.

trying to remember the one song I know I know by them..
Seems to me it was a good song. Now I’ll have to look it up.
The Sheep Song and Boston are not bad at all.
I am glad Amanda is writing slow songs too. Sometimes there is a mood right for them.
I didn’t even bother reading that. But whatever you’re talking about, it’s for WoWtards.
I agree, against all odds it’s an excellent album.
Hmm…I’ve never had occasion to listen to the Dresden Dolls. Are they good enough to add to my collection?
Definitely, you should like them.
