Blogracy
Written by Pacdan
In what should prove to be a fascinating experiment in new blogging ideas comes BayWords, a blogging service based on WordPress and promising completely uncensored blogging, at least up to the point of actually breaking the law, coming from none other than the creators of The Pirate Bay. So in concept this is all well and good, especially if they actually manage to provide a decent service rather than just a gimmick, but does anyone really want their blog to be on a site that could disappear at anytime pending legal action and, even if it’s not going anywhere, is at least loosely associated with a major piracy site. I mean, even if you don’t have anything to do with the actual Pirate Bay site yourself, it still does not seem like the best idea to put yourself out there in that way in the age of mass copyright scams litigation. Not to mention that I’m not aware of anyone who has actually suffered from censorship on a free blog service, though apparently it must have happened or their wouldn’t be a (theoretical) need for this. Still, I’m aware of many sites on Blogspot blatantly catering to illegal content without facing any problems. And even if you do want to say something that offensive that someone hosting your blog would want it censored, is it really that hard to get your own hosting. I mean, it’s not dirt cheap, but it’s not that much either and with just a little advertising it could probably be at least self sustaining. As far as I can tell, this is just another gimmick along the same lines of BayImg, offering an unnecessary service just for the sake of trying to legitimize the ideologies of The Pirate Bay. Of course, those might not actually be bad ideologies, but I still don’t see the need for this in the already crowded free blogging market.
