So Then…

Written by Pacdan

I’ve decided trying to write a gigantic megapost is not working out for me, at all, so you are just going to have to deal with a series of smaller posts interspersed among the usual junk. This is the first of said posts, basically amounting to a copy and paste of the first section of what I was working on for a larger post. This is going to point out a few quality obscure artists who I think are worth checking out.

The Good, The Great, and the Indie

RWK:
Genre: Progressive Rock
Vocals: Male (occasional female)

This 1970’s styled progressive rocker was one of the first musicians I discovered on the internet, many years ago. The combination of clean and distorted guitars with his singing creates a brilliant atmosphere. While his voice would be unspectacular taken out of context, it works well for this style of music. The real star of the show here, however, is the guitar. His guitar work is nothing short of brilliant, vastly under appreciated given that he only has a small internet following. Highly recommended! All songs are streamable and (except the YouTube links) available for free (with registration) download on his Soundclick page.

For Fans of: Blue Oyster Cult, Pink Floyd
Recommended Songs: Walk In The Dark, The Distant Light, Whisper In The Dark (older version of Whisper From The Heart, which is also recommended), The Arrow of Time (and Older Version), You’re Not Dealing
Websites: Official Site, Soundclick Page

Storms Approach:
Genre: Progressive Metal
Vocals: Female

Excellent female-fronted metal band from Massachusetts. One of the best voices I’ve heard since Manda Ophuis of Nemesea combines with blazing guitar work to create one of the best metal discoveries in ages. While I haven’t been able to get their self-titled debut album yet (it’s among my top priorities), the streamable songs are simply amazing. Well worth a listen, though unfortunately no downloads are available.

For Fans of: Nightwish, Nemesea’s Mana, Elis, Edenbridge
Recommended Songs: Far From Harm, Under the Sun, A Scandal In Bohemia, Misnomer, Hidden Away, Procession
Websites: Official, MySpace, Guitarist Eric Clemenzi (songs available in media section)

Jessica Heine:
Genre: Folk
Vocals: Female

One of the many artists whom I have discovered completely by accident, and what a lucky accident it was. Hailing from Alberta, Canada the immensely talented Jessica Heine creates beautiful acoustic songs in a folk style. With her beautiful voice and quality songwriting, it’s amazing she hasn’t achieved more recognition. You guessed it, highly recommended!

For Fans of: Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Simon & Garfunkel
Recommended Songs: Indigo, Either Way, Dragonslayer, Ophelia
Websites: Official, MySpace, CD Baby
