10 Reasons Sony Fanboys Think PS3 Will Be Relevant This Year
Written by Pacdan
Completely ignoring the fact that by letting the 360 gain this much ground Sony already lost the console wars, PS3 fanboy has 10 reasons why they think the PS3 is still relevant this year, only one of which is actually well, relevant.
1. Blu-Ray Won: Yes, so PS3 will probably become the dominant HD movie player being the cheapest and best Blu-Ray player. This is entirely true and will definitely boost sales, but it ignores the fact that at least in the mainstream HD movies haven’t and are not going to catch on, because most people don’t own an HDTV, don’t want a new player, don’t want to pay more for movies (they’re already more than they should be), and don’t want to rebuy the stuff that they already have on (perfectly fine looking) DVD’s. Not to mention that after watching in store displays for a few minutes, my mother, father and I all agree that HD movies are annoyingly intense and we’d rather not watch them.
2. High Quality PSN Titles: No one cares, XBox Live Arcade games are more and better, plus they’ve got Rez.
3. Great DLC Support: Again, no better than on the 360, and there’s very few games worth having DLC for.
4. Dualshock 3: Wait, so we finally get last gen features that should have been there from the beginning? I’m thrilled, really.
5. Firmware Updates: No one cares.
6. Value for Money: Less money is good, but it still sells for much more than it’s worth. They’re going to have to hit $300 or they haven’t got a shot.
7. Metal Gear Solid 4: Not a reason the PS3 will be a success, just means this game will flop because it’s exclusive to a failed console.
8. LittleBigPlanet: Looks very cool, but far from a system seller. It’s a nice thing for owners, but won’t help the PS3.
9. Home: #1, we don’t even know if it’s worth the wait yet, #2: Not a system seller by any means, #3: Only a small percentage of users actually care about this & #4: Trying to be a Second Life clone, but not nearly compelling enough to get users to switch, and most people won’t want to be bothered with both.
10. Remote Play: Not that cool, not that useful, and (while I love mine) the PSP isn’t doing so well either.
