The Golden Compass
Written by Pacdan
Is probably the most unfairly criticized book-to-movie adaptation ever. There’s so many fans who hate the movie because it made what amounts to a few minor changes to characters and plot line. OK, so the renaming characters thing was just silly, but it’s really not the end of the world, and the event switching of Svalbard coming before saving Roger was really necessary for a cinematic perspective. The whole thing was well acted, with the exception that I didn’t care for Lee Scoresby/Hester, the script was fine and the special effects were great. It’s so sad that it was a gigantic flop, because I expected to hate it and was absolutely blown away by how good of a job they did with the movie. In my opinion, it’s much better than the most recent Harry Potter and also better than the first Chronicles of Narnia. I think it’s just the undeserved negative hype that really killed what was ultimately a great movie. Not Lord of the Rings caliber, certainly, but still very well done. I believe it did very well in Europe, but I still don’t think that will be enough to get a sequel (The Subtle Knife).

Not like the Eragon movie where I have to wonder if they guy who wrote it ever actually read the book.. LOL
